...and it was awful.

Not only did the transmission jerk the whole car around when shifting, but the bucking every time you got on or off the accelerator in rush hour! It was dreadful! You can’t adjust the seat, you need a paper clip to tune the radio because the buttons are so small. The big toggle switches for stuff look cool but they all have a sweet spot to work, push them too far one way and whatever they operate stops again. The big center speedometer was cool though...

I first noticed the jerky throttle thing back in the 90s when manufacturers were trying to cut emissions. The injector on/off reactions were very noticeable. Today we have start/stop, cylinder deactivation, tons of gears...I wonder how much of that is a factor. I vaguely remember driving cars from the 70s-80s where throttle on/off was always buttery smooth.

clearly Mini isn’t for you. Can I interest you in a GM?

Smooth shifting, big easy to see buttons.

Holy shit, that takes me back to college. One of my roommates had a 2001 Grand Am GT except it wreaked of cigarettes and didn’t look that good, but it was really the only car I had access to in college so it was still better than nothing.

I am convinced they all reeked of cigarette smoke. Might have been a standard equipment from factory

Not bad. Haven’t seen anything that interesting locally.

It wasn’t the S, and it was automatic. Its a brilliant car to drive. with the right amount of practicality thrown in for a car its size.
